I was in a store at a mall and it was close to closing time. I ran into a friend of mine and we were talking and looking around the store. The lady working was very nice and helpful. At the end of her shift my friend asked for something behind the counter and the lady had to put her code in the register to open that compartment. Then my friend looked at the item and had the lady put it back. The store closing time came and the lady started to shut the doors to the mall opening and my friend said wait, stop!
The lady reopened the doors, my friend said that there was one thing she needed to do. The lady in full trust of us said we could go ahead and be sure to lock up when we left. I was surprised how she fully trusted us when she really didn’t know us fully.
The next thing I knew my friend went up to the register and had memorized this lady’s code and entered it. She then stole under this lady’s license number to make it look like she was the one who did it.
When I saw this I felt uncomfortable and knew it was wrong so I distanced myself back outside the doors and told her come on we need to go.
We then shut the doors and left.
Little did we know the authorities were watching everything via camera and I found out I was summoned to court because I was associated with the crime. I witnessed and did nothing about it.
I started thinking to myself while I was in my car what the sentence would be for me because the court case was not over yet. I thought surely my judgement wouldn’t be as bad because I didn’t want to do it and had no part. However, I never said anything or told anyone about it.
